Eric Lanz’s artist book ›Arbeiten und Materialien – Travaux et Matériaux‹ brings together a lifelong oeuvre dating back to the 1990s. Lanz’s practice is multimedia-based, bringing objects, humans and machines into relation with one another. His art sparks a sense of discovery, plays with fascination and attention while at the same time exploring processes of growth and decay—always circling around photosensitive processes of image-making.

The visual section was developed in close collaboration between designer Christian Dietz and Eric Lanz, resulting in a cover that reflects Lanz’s engagement with photosensitive techniques: depending on how the light falls on its surface, a screen-printed UV relief varnish reveals different appearances of the artist’s name. Equally important was the treatment of the German and French texts, as both languages hold similar significance within Eric’s practice. Throughout the publication, they are therefore presented side by side rather than one after the other, avoiding any hierarchy between the two languages.

The publication accompanied Eric Lanz’s exhibition at Museum Morsbroich (Leverkusen) and was published by Vexer Verlag Berlin/St. Gallen.
